Summary
The Heart Sutra, in Sanskrit the Prajna Paramita Hrdaya Sutra and in Japanese the Hannya Shingyo, is very short, yet it contains the most fundamental principle of Buddhism. It describes the state called prajñā, and Mike reads it as a description of zazen: he rendered it freely as the Sutra of the Heart of the Great Practice of Zazen, in which there is nothing to get and the mantra heals suffering. Nishijima explains in his introduction that Dogen's chapter Maka-hannya-haramitsu is his interpretation of the sutra and that prajñā-pāramitā means the accomplishment which is great real wisdom.
