Summary
The Christian religion splits good and bad, or right and wrong, completely: the moral code came from God, and if you do bad, you will be sinful, and God will punish you. Mike says this polarisation is very strong in European culture, but there is no sin in Buddhism, only wrong conduct; and Dogen writes that wrong is not something that invades us or that we have to destroy. Right and wrong exist mixed up together, good and bad exist together in everything and heaven and hell are here, unseparated: Buddhism says neither good nor bad, but in the middle, and our action in the present is our life, beyond right or wrong. The aim of Buddhism, Mike says, is not to separate: to be right and wrong, to be good and bad.
