Summary
In the chapter Raihai-tokuzui Dogen says that anything that teaches us the truth, we should revere, whether it is a cat, a tree, a child, a dog or a mountain. Life is always teaching us, so we can learn the truth from anybody or anything, not only from a teacher who is a human being and knows more than we do, and there is no hierarchy. But we cannot always recognise something that has the truth, unless we recognise the same thing in ourselves.
