Summary

In these texts, translation brings Dogen and the Buddhist scriptures from Chinese characters and Japanese into other languages. Nishijima Roshi and Mike Cross made a very literal translation of the Shobogenzo: making Dogen's strangeness un-strange misses the point. His writings should be read from our own real experience here and now.
