Summer 2007 — Uji

Mike opens this first Uji talk by asking how the present can have depth rather than being merely a point on a line of time. He does not claim that Buddhist teaching offers an easy theory of time; he stages the difficulty through Susannah Vrobel’s work, Buddhist philosophy, and the audience’s questions. For him, the investigation matters even when its mathematics or abstractions are hard to follow. His own name for Uji, time-present, is intended to hold together time and our being present in it.
